A trailer towing pin (or hitch pin) is a vital mechanical fastener that physically secures your trailer's ball mount or coupler to your towing vehicle. Designed to withstand immense towing forces and road vibrations, it is an essential component for safe and legal towing.
Typically forged from hardened steel, stainless steel, or chrome-plated steel to bear heavy loads and resist rust. While standard pins use a cotter pin or wire clip, many feature built-in key-operated cylinder locks to prevent the theft of expensive ball mounts or trailers.

Production Process of Trailer Towing Pin
Material preparation and cutting
Raw steel in the form of long, heavy-duty bars is inspected and cut to the specific blank length required for the pin's dimensions.
Forging and shaping
The cut steel blank is heate and subjected to intense mechanical pressure using hydraulic presses.
Creating the head
This process forms the top head of the pin, which is usually shaped into an "l" shape, a ring, or a flat handle.
Hole punching
A secondary press is used to punch a hole through the shaft near the bottom of the pin, which will later hold the retaining clip or cotter pin.
Heat treating
Because towing pins endure extreme shear and bending stresses, they must be heat-treated. The pins are heated in a furnace to high temperatures and then rapidly quenched (cooled) in oil or water.
Surface finishing
To protect the steel from rusting and corrosion caused by road salt and weather, the pins undergo surface finishing. This generally involves zinc plating, chrome plating, or a highly durable powder-coat.
